Sailor hats are in. Yes, that’s correct, but let me circle back to that. I’m sitting at a dog park, and there’s this fly that will NOT leave me alone and a dog that also will not stop barking - my sensory receptors are off the charts. Thankfully, there are plenty of cute dopey dogs around, so it evens out a bit. Now, about those sailor hats: they’ve been making waves on the runway this season from New York to Paris for SS25 collections, along with all the sailor attire—think big collars and capri pants and pleated skirts.
I took a sick day (which turned into two) from work, and honestly, it was the best decision for my mental health. I started my period the same day with a raging headache, so it definitely qualified as such. I was actually on the freeway driving to work when the thought struck me: I could literally take the day to rest.. What?! Is that possible? Do I have sick days for a reason? Yes. So, I flipped a bitch and took the first exit heading back home to my cozy bed and my “beans” (a microwaveable corn sack I use like a heating pad).
Sammy is home for a few days before starting his new position, and I realized we wouldn’t have another chance to hang out like this mid-week for a while. When you’re living with a partner (and I say this more to myself) time slips away so fast, and before you realize it, you get caught up in your own routines and work hustle, that even though you’re living together, you aren’t really LIVING together. Time to spend in Sam’s presence is time to be cherished (and I’m not apologizing for being gushy and in love!!). Naturally, I had to stop for a pumpkin spice latte at Starbucks on the way home. I’m not a huge Starbucks drinker, but it works in a pinch. Sam says whenever a day starts with a cup from there, it’s bound to be a different kind of day—neither good nor bad. It doesn’t make much sense, but I totally agree.
Still in my work attire, the morning called for a walk. Sam, being the sweetie he is, wanted to match my vibe. So out we went! Coffees in hand! We go for a walk almost every morning, it's a nice ritual we started randomly one morning a few weeks back. We chat about everything—our dreams, daily intentions, and sometimes current events. That morning, we even dove into runway fashion.
I’ve been eagerly following this seasons fashion weeks, picking apart what catches my eye, and right now, the nautical influence is tickling my fancy. From Tory Burch’s fresh out of water looks to Dior’s swimsuit-inspired garments, to Moschino and Marni, I’m here for it. I’ve also been eyeing Ruslan Baginskiy’s hats for a few years now, especially now since the sailor look is back. I’m particularly drawn to their hot pink cap, but Sam loves the black sailor cap, which I completely agree with—good hats are my weakness.
And let’s not forget the chokehold that Prada has had on me with their funky, futuristic, dare I say, bug-like hats. A fashion analysts I follow @oldloserinbroolkyn, described this Prada collection to the the runway show that teenagers in 2040 reference, just as my age demographic has drawn inspiration from 1999 Prada. I thought that was a great way to describe the collection of strange silhouettes and colorful maximalism - quite visionary.
I recently discovered The RealReal—I know, I’m late to the party, but you guys, I’m obsessed. Curating a wishlist of vintage shoes and hats feels like digital ownership, and it’s great retail therapy. Until, of course, I go back the next day to find that the killer deal on those Chanel flats has sold, leaving me heartbroken. But they were a killer deal, so it’s no surprise. I’ve spotted a few Ruslan Baginskiy pieces on The RealReal, and I think the time has finally come to pull the trigger. I just made my first purchase from there actually, a vintage Gucci bag, and having it arrive so perfectly fully converted me to the hype (no this is not a sponsored post, but maybe it should be!).
I’ve also been pondering the music for runway shows—how it’s chosen, the vibe it creates. Some songs just sound like fashion; I can’t explain it. The rhythm and poppy sounds match the mood perfectly. Others are a bit eerie, like the show at Luar that I watched through my screen. Screeching music accompanied flashing lights as the models walked down the iconic street in front of the Rockefeller Center. Here is the Luar Show via brendahashtag. But music and a scene completely change the perception of the clothes. House music or techno beats of any kind are suuuuch a vibe—I’m actually obsessed. I couldn’t find the music played during the show as it was mainly booming bass, but this was the closing song for Luar which I thought was fun.
Sam just snagged a massive second speaker from Facebook Marketplace, and now every night while making dinner, we link up the two speakers for a full-on cooking experience. It’s quite fun, would recommend to a friend.
That’s all for now, enjoy these photos to know what I’m rambling about.
xoxo,
isabella
